I am looking for a young man as an employee who is motivated, hard working, mechanically inclined with computer experience to work on my farm in north-central Montana. My husband passed away five years ago and recently my son passed away unexpectedly. I have always been active in the financial management of the farm and do a lot of the outdoor work as well, especially the spraying program with our self-propelled sprayer.
I think my situation would be an ideal situation for a young man who comes from a farm background who may not have the opportunity to stay in farming. I plan on managing the farm for some time but as time goes by and, if we are compatible, it may be a long term opportunity for this person to lease the farm from my estate as I plan on leaving the land in a trust for my grandchildren.
I have modern updated machinery that includes a Case IH STX 500 tractor, a 8230 CIH combine, and a 3330 Case IH self-propelled sprayer. We farm approximately 5000 acres and I will more and likely be farming another 1100 acres in a year or two. We do precision agriculture on most of the acres so familiarity with computers , etc., would be expected.
I will furnish a three bedroom house with two fireplaces, deck and hot tub, and all utilities as well. Another important consideration for them would be if they have any problems working with a woman as a boss. I would also expect a certain amount of manual labor as we all know goes with the farming operation, and a willingness to work long hours in seeding and harvesting seasons. Winters of course involve hauling wheat and barley, maintaining machinery, and keeping checks on stored grain and on my farmstead as I usually go for at least two months of the winter.
If you know of any young man who might be interested in such a position I would appreciate it if you would pass this information on. Do you know of any local listings in your area for this kind of a job?
Years ago, when you were Rexburg College, we hosted a young intern from your program, who worked out so well. We have maintained a very close relationship with him and his family ever since.
Thank you!
