Internship at Symms Fruit Ranch
Symms Fruit Ranch is located in Western Idaho, with one farm located in Eastern Oregon along the Idaho border. They own or lease approx. 5000 acres, with just over 3000 acres in fruit production. The rest of the acreage is row crop (mostly onions, alfalfa, wheat, beans), pasture, or not suited for agriculture. Within the next one to ten years, most of the individuals currently in management roles will be retiring, meaning that there will be many employment opportunities for college graduates in the near future.
At the current time, there are openings for interns. The internship would last 10-20 weeks, depending on the schedule of the individual, and working 40-50 hours a week. This will be a paid internship, paying $11/hr. There is a possibility of housing availability for the intern in exchange for an extremely low monthly rent payment (depending on the house, usually less than $150 per month). However, housing availability on company land is not guaranteed. After determining which dates an intern would be here, the intern will work with Jace Johnson, the internship coordinator and past BYUI student, to put a plan together to ensure that the experience closely matches the interest if the intern. An intern would work primarily in tree fruit, but would also spend time each week working in row crops, with our irrigation manager, with our various farm managers, in the business office, with labor crews, in the shop, in our retail store, in the packing shed, or with the local agronomy team from Wilbur-Ellis company. Visit their website here at www.symmsfruit.com
Interested persons should send resumes to:

Internship at Magnolia Ranch
Located in Teton Valley, Idaho and do the majority of our work in Jackson Hole. We are looking for an intern for this summer to help with a variety of tasks within our company. We could really tailor the intern for the student, depending on what skills they bring to the table. This person doesn't need to have any floral training, but it would not hurt if they did. We are looking for someone who will be able to be comfortable around our family as this is a family run business and they are always around and a part of it all.
Some of the tasks might include:
*acting as a support for social media *blogging, both on our website and to pitch former weddings to big national blogs for them to pick up
*help with processing flowers
*pulling and prepping containers for each weekend
*checking ahead for future weddings to make sure we have the right hard goods or find what we are lacking
*basic floral design work (that I would be very hands on, making sure they knew exactly what the client was looking for), *organizing inventory on a regular basis
*workflow timelines
*event day timelines
*set up/break down on site at weddings and events
I feel like it would be easiest for this person to just drive over from Rexburg, rather than try to find housing here. There are very few rentals in the area and they are mostly homes for families. This would also allow them to maintain a social life and not feel isolated in our little valley. My internship was in Idaho Falls while I lived in Rexburg; this drive is just barely longer but infinitely more beautiful!
We are so excited about the possibility of having a BYUI intern this summer. I learned so much during my time as an intern that really helped shape me and my career path. I hope we can give another student a similar experience.
Best wishes,
Sami Volcansek

Royalty Administration International [Feb. 2014]I wanted to let you know that my company, Royalty Administration International, is looking to hire another field representative. The ideal candidate is a fresh college graduate with the ability to travel extensively (moms with small kids or newly wed attached-at-the-hip types would probably not like the job) If you can handle the travel then the job is pretty fun, a lot like doing Spring Trials for a living.
Royalty Administration represents a plethora of plant breeders (Ball, Syngenta, Terra Nova, Proven Winner, Selecta.... ). The company collects royalties on the legal propagation of patented plant material, and aims to protect the rights of the breeders by preventing and punishing illegal propagation and any other items within each breeders "Grower's Agreement" (correct tagging, proper container requirements ...)
In this way RAI (royalty administration) both protects the interest of the breeders, keeps them informed about how and where there product is being used, and also keeps the playing field level for growers who follow the rules.
The field rep's job is to travel to greenhouses within their territory and look for illegal propagation of patented plant material and correct tagging practices. If any discoveries are found then the field rep talks with the growers and takes the proper action dependent on the severity of the discovery.
This job requires a confident personality, basic knowledge of plant propagation, excellent people skills, ability to recognize various stages of plant propagation, and the ability to learn an recognize a lot product from a lot of different breeders.
The job is salaried with decent benefits and travel costs are completely covered while on the road. It offers a great opportunity to make connections all over and meet a lot of people (both big and small) in the industry. Most field reps only stay with the company for 2-5 years and then move on to bigger and better things, so it would be a great place for someone who doesn't really know what direction to head in.
I think Sam (my boss) would like to have the position filled or at least interviews set up by April. The sooner the better! I think he is very interested in finding someone who either lives in the western end of the country or would be willing to relocate to that region. While it might not guarantee the job, it would be a huge boon to the applicant in the selection process.
If you know of a recent or soon to be graduate who would be interested have them send a resume and cover letter to the email below. And if anyone has any questions about the job feel free to have them email me and I will help them out.
Applicants can feel free to mention me in their email, but I don't know if it would help or hurt their chances ;)
Interested applicants should address the cover letter to Sam Rizzi and send it with a resume to [email protected]

SSC Service Solutions @Texas A&M University [Jan. 2014]TAMU outsourced its facilities management including grounds management to SSC Service Solutions in August of ’12. I assumed responsibility as The Grounds Manager this past October. The campus has approximately 5200acres of landscaping and native areas. We service most exterior aspects of campus. In addition to the general grounds management we manage a couple hundred acres of recreational turf, grow most of our own bedding plants and perennial color, and TAMU is home of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Conference Center which, we care for.
While TAMU is centrally located between Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas/Fort Worth we are still fairly remote. There is a dearth qualified Hort/Turf/Irrigation/LCON professionals within a reasonable commuting distance. I have immediate openings for several “Team Leader” Positions that pay in the 31k per year range to start. There also two Supervisory positions that will start in the 37-40k per year range. SSC Service Solutions is a subsidiary of Compass Group, NAD which is the seventh largest company in the world. Our benefits and promotional opportunities are top notch. The senior grounds team here at TAMU is really strong and committed to mentoring young professionals.
On a personal note, College Station has a very strong stake, including a solid singles ward. The cost of living in this part of Texas is very favorable. The schools in College Station and several of the neighboring communities are on par with Utah, Idaho, WA, OR.

Subject: Job opening with Circle Bar Ranch
March 13, 2013
Today we received a phone call from George Olson, owner of the Circle Bar Ranch operation in the Manila, Utah area. Manila and the Circle Bar Ranch are close to the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. Brother Olson is looking for a person for full-time employment on his ranch. The ranch operation includes a cow-calf and yearling livestock enterprise. In addition they have a hay enterprise with an annual yield of around 2,000 tons (round bales). The duties of this full-time opening will include working the cattle, irrigation (pivots, flood and hand lines), and harvesting the hay crops. The right candidate should also have some understanding of mechanics, welding, etc.
Brother Olson is looking for an individual that understands cattle and willing to “ride herd” a good portion of the time. He feels that the opening is just right for a young married couple, but that does not mean a single person with an interest and qualifications wouldn’t be hired. The ranch has a cabin on it that the employee would stay in.
The length of employment is a minimum of 1 year beginning summer 2013. The job could continue beyond the one year. Brother and Sister Olson have just returned from serving a mission and have been called back to the same mission. Their son Jedidiah manages the ranch while Brother and Sister Olson serve the mission. The employee will be working with Jedidiah.
The employee will be compensated with a monthly “salary”, with additional minor benefits (cabin, some meals, etc.)
Students that are interested in this opening can contact Brother Olson directly at the numbers below:

AgReserves, Inc.Good Afternoon,
As many of you may know AgReserves, Inc. (ARI) will be visiting our campus November 8-9. They will hold a general information session on Nov 8 at 7:00 p.m. in Benson 287 and immediately following the information session they will schedule internship interviews for the next day. We are excited about the opportunities available to our students. Last year ARI was blown away by our students’ interest. We would like to match or surpass that interest with this year’s visit. In so doing, I would like to ask your help in spreading the word to all students in your classes and within the Agribusiness, Plant and Animal Sciences department.
Attached are two posters sent from ARI for reference. I also printed a few copies in color and will try to get those out to as many of you as I can.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Kind Regards,
